Miss Havisham

Humiliated and heartbroken, Miss Havisham suffered a mental breakdown and remained alone in her decaying mansion Satis House, never removing her wedding dress wearing only one shoe, leaving the wedding breakfast and cake uneaten on the table, and allowing only a few people to see her.
She even had the clocks in her mansion stopped at twenty minutes to nine: the exact time when she had received Compeyson's letter.

Miss Havisham: "Look closer if you wish. My brother's collection. He went to the furthest reaches of the earth in his quest for the purest specimen of beauty. And when he found it, he stuck a pin through its heart. He's dead now. Cholera. In the tropics. Struck down in his relentless pursuit of beauty. Perhaps it was beauty's revenge to stop his heart when he had stopped so many others."

Miss Havisham: Come nearer. Let me look at you. Come close. Look at me. You aren't afraid of a woman who has never seen the sun since before you were born?

Pip visits Miss Havisham, who begs his forgiveness - she realises she has broken Pip's heart, just as Compeyson broke hers. Pip forgives her, but she gets too close to the fire and her dress catches alight. Pip saves her and is badly burned. Miss Havisham eventually dies of her wounds.

Hermione Hare

Hermione Hare loves to dance in the spring - She is dressed in a collection of antique French textiles including ticking, checks and toile in shades of blue.
Quirky little details include a bumpy braid hanging from her waist with paper butterfly nestled upon it and an old paper sale price tag stitched to her skirt.
A millinery daisy adorns her neckline.

Viola

Viola pirouetting in a patchwork skirt of ancient French toile de jouy fabric and lace fragments.
Silk sleeves and bloomers make her feel wonderfully special.
Her little apron was fashioned from a vintage collar and is embroidered with a delicate pansy flower. I added the hand painted silk viola to the front of her skirt with naive hand stitching.
